Yar Sheets Celebration of Life

Colin Watson, Friend & Colleague

Celebrating the Life of Yar

Yar and I first met in Colorado Springs in the Autumn of 2003. We were working on a very contentious construction project. Over the next 20 years, until he retired, Yar and I worked together enjoying the highs, and suffering the lows of the construction industry.

Yar often professed that he didn’t enjoy his work, but he was truly one of the best in his field. Colleagues wanted him on their teams, Clients wanted him on their projects. Former colleagues were shocked and saddened by the news of his passing.

Great to work with

Good man

Good memories

Great mentor

These are some of the many comments received. Yar was so very well respected.

On the face of it, other than work, Yar and I had nothing in common, no shared interests.

Yar enjoyed working with his hands, designing and building his many projects. I have 2 left hands, with no technical skills whatsoever.

I play golf and enjoy all sports. Yar did not play golf and enjoyed no sports.

We had long and rambling chats, lubricated with a few drams. We talked politics, literature, science, countries visited, movies, TV, life, the universe and everything. Everything except sports that is.

I am so glad he got the chance to write and publish his book. It, in turns, made me thoughtful, made me cry, made me laugh. It gave me a deeper insight into the man. There is one paragraph in the book that will stay with me forever, and forever make me smile. It epitomizes to me the very “Yarness of Yar”. In it he writes, and I paraphrase, “in Colin I found a similar intellect”. Flattered or Insulted?  The former, I think.

Yar was a great friend to me. I miss him daily.
